New-kids on the block: The 1990's bunch.
THE 1990’s; an era where players like Alan Shearer, Zinidine
Zidane and Romario dominated the world of Football, and Manchester United
became the global-superpower they now are. In a time where Brazil reached two
World Cup finals and their prodigal son became the most prolific, feared
striker on the planet. This was the decade where the English Premier League
Football was born. The players who experienced the 1990’s football; are a dying
breed. David Beckham, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes are all survivors of one of
the most exciting times in Footballs history. But what of the children of the
1990’s; how good would an all-star-side of the 1990’s Footballer’s actually be?
and will they keep the beautiful game in safe-hands as the old-heads pass the
guard down?
In terms of safe-hands, the goalkeepers of the 1990’s are looking a sure bet; Manchester United’s Goalkeeper David De Gea, as well as on-loan Chelsea star Thibaut Courtois (On-loan at Athletico Madrid) are two of the finest Goalkeepers the 1990’s have to offer. However, recently capped England international Jack Butland is the finest of the English goalkeepers; some believe in the coming years he will push Manchester Cities Joe Hart all the way for the England number one role.
In defence youngsters like Manchester United’s Phil Jones and the Frenchman Raphael Varane are fine examples of future world-class centre-backs. FC Schalke’s Kyriakos Papadopoulos is another centre-back who bigger teams are circling around Manchester United being most recently linked with the 6ft Greek. Fullbacks in the 1990’s seem to be all out attacking menaces. Bayern Muniches’ David Alaba has netted five times this campaign already and Manchester United’s Rafael has netted three times. The fullbacks are mercurial in nature, and a joy to watch.
There is no shortages of exciting names in the Midfield department to throw around – Jack Wilshire, Casemiro, Eden Hazard and Joel Obi are all who’s shoulders our Football mantle falls upon.
The 21 one year Jack Wilshire is perhaps the most exciting talent in English football; after a stellar performance against Barcelona in Arsenals quarter final showdown in 2011, the biggest clubs in the world are circling around him – Barcelona, and Manchester City. There is no shortage in exciting Brazilian midfielders; the emergence of these stars just before the 2014 World Cup in Rio is mouth-watering. It brings similarities back to the emergences of Rivaldo, Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos in the early 1990’s. Casemiro, Neymar and Lucas could be the Brazilians that bring the World Cup after a 12 year absence.

In the coming ten years or so – faces like Steven Gerrard, Xavi and Cristano Ronaldo will vanish. But a new generation of exciting footballers will rise and replace them. Neymar, Romelu Lukaku and Eden Hazard are all names that will grace our backpages for the foreseeable future.
